Simple document viewer for PDF, XPS, CBR and more
STDU Viewer is a free file viewer that deals specifically with the most important scientific and technical documentation formats – namely TIFF, PDF, DjVu, XPS, JBIG2, and WWF.
This app also supports other formats, but don’t rely on it for everything – you can’t open things like .DOC or .HTML, for example – but you can get quite far with lots of image file support as well as “comic” formats, like CBR and CBZ.
STDU Viewer features the traditional viewer interface: a main area to display the selected page and a sidebar to show content summary. There’s also a bottom bar with handy navigational controls; and a top menu bar to access tools, like zoom, text selection and page adjustments.
STDU Viewer can open several documents simultaneously and is light on system resources. If it had support for those missing formats, it would be the perfect document viewer! There is also a portable version of STDU Viewer, for users who are constantly on the go.
STDU Viewer is the perfect viewer for technical documentation and more.

I can't do research without STDU!.
I was shocked that its rating makes it appear to be mediocre. Mediocre this reader? No way! It's an essential tool, and I am grateful to its developers. Whenever I use it, all grad students just coo, "ohhh, what reader program is THAT?"FEATURES: 1. AMAZING Search. When you search, STDU gives you a list to the side of all the possible places where the word is contained in its context. No more pressing +Return 50 times until you encounter the citation! I can find almost anything in a 900 page file in 10-20 seconds! 2. Great hot key options, F6 Full Screen read, without ELIMINATING your search box. 3. Not always connecting to creepy spyware like Adobe Reader. Stable and light on your system! 4. I never have a problem opening a document! 5. When you close, you have the option to reopen the same group of documents you were referencing. 6. You can even save groups of documents as a Session, to start on a clean slate when you switch projects,e.g. "Taxes," "Foundation Project."
Pros:
(See my FEATURES list.)
1. The Hoy Key Options, e.g. F6 Full Screen
2. AMAZING search tool that lists options to the left, makes finding common words in a longggg document a snap.
3. No creepy spyware, STABLE and light on your system
4. No problems opening documents
5. Upon closing, gives you the option reopen all the documents in the next session
6. Want to start with a clean reader??? Save work sessions to return to a group of documents, e.g. "Taxes," "Project Proposal"
Cons:
Maybe it's appearance? It's straightforward, get-down-to-business, no cute graphics interface. This might be intimidating to some people at first. But personally, that's EXACTLY what I want when I am going through a lot of documents: to find what I need quickly, on a light program that performs well.
As others have mentioned, you cannot highlight or comment on the documents as you read, so it is great to complement it with another program like Nitro Reader if you like that option. More
